Description
The cutlery on wealthy tables was richly inlaid with ivory, tortoiseshell, precious woods, and metals. For eating, a spoon or 'ligula' was used, with one end hollowed for scooping and the other ending in a point for spearing food. Illustration from the book "History of Costumes of Peoples Throughout the Centuries" by Paolo Lorenzini, Nerbini Publishing House, Florence, 1934.
