Illustration of Etruscan vases from the book "History of Costumes of Peoples Throughout the Centuries" by Paolo Lorenzini, Nerbini Publishing House, Florence, 1934. Often made of black clay, not fired but sun-dried, polished on the outside, decorated with low-relief figures featuring religious symbols and especially references to the doctrine of Erebus. They resemble ancient Egyptian art. Unsuitable for domestic use, they were exclusively used in funerary ceremonies, intended for tombs.

Spesso di terra nera, non cotti ma asciugati al sole, lucidati all'esterno, decorati con figure a basso rilievo con simboli religiosi e specialmente con rimandi alla dottrina dell'Erebo. Ricordano l'arte antica egiziana. Inadatte all'uso domestico, venivano usate esclusivamente nelle cerimonie funebri, destinate ai sepolcri.
