Illustration of the uniform of a Roman army consul from the book "History of Costumes of Peoples Throughout the Centuries" by Paolo Lorenzini, Nerbini Publishing House, Florence, 1934. The consul wore the golden crown, held the scepter in his right hand, and received while seated on an ivory chair. He wore the trabea, a purple toga with white stripes. He had the authority to remove from the equestrian order those who had behaved improperly.

Il console portava la corona d'oro, teneva nella mano destra lo scettro e riceveva seduto su una sedia d'avorio. Indossava la trabea, toga di porpora a strisce bianche. Poteva rimuovere dall'ordine equestre chi aveva tenuto una cattiva condotta.
